14 May St Neots Initiative Welcomes Richard Shaw MBE as new Chair
Following its 29th Annual General Meeting held at the Citizen Hub, the St Neots Initiative (SNI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Shaw MBE as its new Chair.
Richard, a long-standing champion of civic and community life in the town since he moved to the town with his wife Sue, brings with him decades of leadership experience across the non-profit sector. His appointment marks a new chapter for the Initiative as it deepens its mission to energise the people, places and prosperity of St Neots.
Richard takes over from Alex Hughes, who served as Chair during a pivotal three-year period of growth and modernisation for the Initiative. Under Alex’s leadership, SNI expanded its volunteer base, launched impactful citizen and business leader gatherings, and laid the foundations for long-term strategic initiatives including youth leadership development, local economic strategy, and the upcoming launch of the St Neots Happiness Index.
“Richard’s vast experience in the non-profit sector and his unwavering commitment to contribute St Neots make him the ideal person to lead SNI into its next phase,” said Alex Hughes. “This role is not about public profile, it’s about purpose. And I can’t think of anyone better suited to bring people together and ensure the voice of the town continues to be heard where it matters.”
Speaking on his appointment, Richard said:
“I would like to acknowledge the considerable contribution that Alex has made, and he leaves a legacy that anyone would be proud of. We will continue to work together and with the talented team that he has put together. I am honoured to be involved ”
The St Neots Initiative will continue to act as a convening force in the town, bringing together businesses, local authorities, and residents to co-design solutions to shared challenges. With a renewed focus on inclusive growth, civic engagement, and youth empowerment, the Initiative’s 2025–26 Business Plan outlines bold steps for the year ahead.
